We all want more: more food, more clothes, more drinks, more sex, more money, and (in the interests of this blog) more financial aid. One of the major providers of financial aid is the federal government, however, biblically-long FAFSA is hardly easy to figure out – and many times have secrets we don’t realize or simply overlook. In an article by BankRate.com, they outline twenty ways to help you receive more aid. These are legitimate, non deceitful ways of getting you money without getting you into trouble. Some are a little obvious – but sometimes it’s the obvious that we forget to take advantage of.
From the twenty tips they included, I found the following most intriguing:
- Counting un-born babies as children (doctor’s note needed)
- Putting the 529 plans in the grandparents name
- Paying off debt as you go along
- When it comes to getting raises or bonuses ask for some form of a perk instead (more flexible hours, subsidized meals, extra vacation time, gym memberships, loan forgiveness, tuition reimbursement or a better insurance package- some of the ways listed)
