There are countless ways college students can share their thoughts and opinions online. From blogs like Mission Tuition, to quick little wall posts on Facebook, students are gaining more and more empowering ways to express themselves. Digital magazines are becoming increasingly popular methods of expression as writers can join an already popular site to post their stories on and not have to create one from scratch.

One digital magazine that is particularly appealing for college students is called FreeMyCampus.com. The site describes itself as:

FreeMyCampus.com is an edgy, controversial, and humorous digital magazine for college students. This site is built to empower student writers to build national and campus audiences around college life topics. Readers get to rank stories by giving their daily freek points.

Similar to other community ranking sites such as Digg.com, FreeMyCampus uses a point system that helps bring the best content to the forefront of the website. The community component of the website is still in its infancy but they have done a nice job focusing in on content, which given the dominance of Facebook and MySpace on the community side, is their best bet. The stories cover a wide range of topics including:

  • Summer
  • Music
  • Dorm Life
  • Greek Row
  • Rants
  • Party Time
  • Academics
  • Anything
  • Sex
  • Campus Issues

The site is fairly new and in the process of building its community. Right now they are running a campaign to recruit new writers and are offering $25 to the first 25 authors who post a great story. Check out FreeMyCampus, their Facebook group or their YouTube channel for more information.
