Drinking and eating are two of the most popular activities in college, and when I say drinking I don’t mean alcohol. What I mean by drinking is soda, juice, Gatorade, Vitamin Water, and bottled water, which all = $$$. You may not think it but these things add up and there is no need to be spending money on something you can get for free. Soda may taste good, but it is neither healthy nor cheap. Gatorade and Vitamin Water may be refreshing and help boost your energy but they too are expensive. Lastly, even a bottle of regular water will cost over $1.50, and we are not even talking about the pretty bottles.

The solution: buy a Nalgene and fill it up. Tap-water really is not that bad. Those of us not in a third world country can typically drink it without fear of contracting gastroenteritis. You already shower, wash your face, clean your dishes, and brush your teeth with the tap water - if you were going to get infected, it would have happened by now. If you are really concerned, a Brita filter costs around $13 and will last a few months (it says to change the filter every month, but given you are not a family of five you will probably be able to last three or four).

For all of you who are sitting there saying you still want your Gatorade and Vitamin Water – dilute your water with some juice. A half gallon of OJ costs you the same as that bottle of Gatorade and it has less sugar and salt as well as more vitamins than actual Vitamin Water. In conclusion, save your money for better drinks and use the tap.
