Despite what most people think, there is a TON of money out there available for college students in need. Resources like Fastweb.com and Scholarshipexperts.com are great examples of where you should begin your scholarship search. Be forewarned, as with any situation where money is involved, there are sure to be con-artists trying to take advantage of naive students. The same applies with scholarships.
Visit the Federal Trade Commissions Website on Scholarship Scams to find out more information on how to avoid LOSING money during your scholarship hunt.
Some warnings posted by the FTC:
- “The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back.”
- “You can’t get this information anywhere else.”
- “I just need your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship.”
- “We’ll do all the work.”
- “The scholarship will cost some money.”
- “You’ve been selected by a ‘national foundation’ to receive a scholarship”
- “You’re a finalist” in a contest you never entered.
For a list of scholarships that aren’t scams, sign up for Fastweb.com and search their database.

There is a lot of mess about these sites, I am not talking about specifically about above listed sites. It is really a very difficult task to save ourselves from scams and frauds. Some sites claim to charge a little fee as well but I don’t rely on those.
It is good to seek information about all the process but I shall not go for applying a scholarship under these sites. There are different review sites which are other resources to get a lot of information.
