It seems that saving for college is something we only start thinking about once the tuition bill is in our hand. Once in college, saving seems to be one of the hardest activities. Besides the tuition bill there are books to pay for, food, travel costs, laundry, and (for those of us who like to have lives) the cost of extra activities. Well, there is now a way to save a little while making all these unavoidable purchases. Upromise is a company that gives students and their family’s cash back on select purchases.
Here is how it works: Students and their family’s (mom, dad, aunt, uncle, Cousin Bob) register their credit cards and store cards (CVS cards, Shaw’s Card, Stop and Shop. Etc.) on the Upromise website. Now, whenever you or your family uses your store cards on select products at the designated stores, you receive a percentage of that purchase in a savings account. It may sound like small change but pennies add up. Think of how often you and your family buy light bulbs, Tylenol, razors, detergent. In addition, Upromise also has a list of a few hundred online retailers. Clicking the Upromise will end up saving you 1-25% on purchases. Registered Credit Cards can also give you savings when dinning out. Upromise has a large database of restaurants in towns across the country. Before going out, be sure to look up restaurants in your area and pay with your registered card and enjoy getting up to 8% savings. Granted this will probably not pay off a year of school, never mind four years, but it’s simple and you get money for buying things you normally purchase.
The site is a bit confusing and does not explain itself well but I would still check it out and register you shopping cards.
